Health care in Colorado is already too expensive, and now, lawmakers are facing a decision that will determine whether costs spiral further out of control.

If the Colorado Health Insurance Affordability Enterprise (HIAE) is not fully funded, Coloradans who buy insurance on their own through our state marketplace will see their monthly premiums increase, and many will be forced to drop coverage entirely. This will lead families to delay care, skip medications, or take on medical debt because they cannot afford coverage.

The Health Enterprise plays a critical role in keeping health care accessible and affordable across our state. It:

  • Makes health insurance more affordable through Reinsurance, especially for people living in rural and mountain communities where costs are often highest.
  • Provides financial assistance, or subsidies, for people buying insurance on the exchange, helping keep health insurance affordable.
  • Expands access to coverage by allowing Coloradans without documentation to buy private health insurance through the OmniSalud program.

If lawmakers fail to act now, they are choosing higher costs, more uninsured Coloradans, and greater strain on hospitals and local economies. When health coverage drops, everyone pays more.

Take Action:

Contact your legislators today and make your voice heard. Tell them:

  • A vote against funding the Health Enterprise is a vote for higher health care costs and more people without coverage.
  • A vote for funding the HIAE is a vote for saving health coverage for Coloradans.
  • A yes vote for the Health Enterprise is a yes vote for maintaining health coverage for all Coloradans.

If we do not pass this bill, thousands of Colorado families will not be able to afford health insurance

Urge your legislators to vote YES on SB26-178 to stop rising costs of health care and protect access to care.
