Too many Colorado families who qualify for help can’t get it — not because the programs don’t exist, but because the systems delivering them were not built with families in mind. Colorado has the opportunity to fundamentally redesign how public assistance works. But the state needs leadership to make sure that vision becomes a reality — a system that is simple, responsive, and easy for families to navigate when they need it most.
Every child deserves a healthy start — but too many Colorado families face uncertainty about whether their kids will have coverage at all. Key parts of the health system run on shaky funding and too many families can’t count on affordable, stable care. The goal is simple: no child loses health coverage, and every family can access the care their kid needs.
Reading by third grade and doing math by eighth grade are key milestones that determine whether a child graduates, goes on to college or a career, and earns a living wage. Colorado has taken real steps forward with a more equitable school funding formula, but progress on paper isn’t the same as results in the classroom. Our next policymakers need to make sure every student actually gets there.
