Between 2017 and 2021, just 49% of Colorado’s 3- and 4-year-olds were enrolled in preschool, as reported by their caregiver. High-quality preschool programs help ensure our youngest learners start kindergarten with the skills they need to hit the ground running, and the positive effects of preschool don’t expire during childhood. Longitudinal research shows that participation in a high-quality preschool program can alter the trajectory of a child’s life, with benefits experienced for decades to come.
