Coloradans who missed the open enrollment deadline in January can still sign up for health coverage as a result of the Tax Time Enrollment Program.
The program, which launched last year, provides Coloradans the opportunity to check a box on their state tax return to share their information with Connect for Health Colorado and the state Department of Health Care Policy & Financing for the purpose of obtaining free or low-cost health coverage. From there, qualifying Coloradans will receive a letter with next steps for signing up with Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) or Connect for Health Colorado during a Special Enrollment Period.
Checking the box does not create any requirement to apply for health insurance or risk that your information will be used for other purposes. The Children’s Campaign supported HB20-1236, which created this program. Through October 2022, approximately 1,700 people used the Tax Time Enrollment Program to enroll in a health insurance plan.
