In 2022, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade (Dobbs Decision), which jeopardized access to comprehensive reproductive health care nationwide.
In the years before and since, Colorado has established itself as a leader in reproductive health care access. But it is critical that Colorado continues to strengthen its reproductive health care safety net to provide timely care for all who need it.
The Colorado Children’s Campaign convenes the Family Planning Access for All Coloradans (FPAAC) Coalition, a group of organizations, advocates, providers and community members dedicated to ensuring that all Coloradans can access the family planning services they need to choose when, how and if they want to have children. Access to family planning services has been correlated with better health, social and financial outcomes for children and families.
This year, FPAAC is prioritizing several legislative, election and implementation initiatives focused on expanding access to family planning services, promoting positive maternal health outcomes, increasing access to abortion care and supporting our public health infrastructure.
These include:
- Supporting a resolution to fund Colorado’s Title X clinics, which provide access to reproductive health care;
- Passing HB24-1262, which takes several steps to integrate maternal health midwives into Colorado’s maternal health landscape;
- Supporting the implementation of previous efforts to expand access to reproductive health care; and
- Supporting Proposed Initiative 50, which would ensure the right to abortion care in Colorado and allow abortion to be a covered service for public employees.
These priorities all work together to strengthen Colorado’s reproductive health care system.
