Fund CHIP ColoradoStatement from Erin Miller, Vice President of Health Initiatives at the Colorado Children’s Campaign, on Behalf of the 2017 Colorado CHIP Coalition
“We are pleased to see Congress taking the first bipartisan steps to continue funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and we are excited that our Colorado Senators are applauding this plan. With nearly 90,000 kids and pregnant women in Colorado using CHIP to access quality, affordable health care, the impact of ending the program would be catastrophic. The proposal currently under consideration would extend CHIP funding for an additional five years, which will help ensure stable coverage for working families and greater budget certainty for states. There isn’t legislative text yet, and we’ll carefully analyze the proposal when it becomes available. In the meantime, we urge our federal delegation to prioritize continued financing for this successful program.”
The 2017 Colorado CHIP Coalition is a coalition of more than 75 Colorado organizations including providers, insurers and consumers focused on ensuring that CHIP funding continues.

In 2017, we were able to impact the well-being of children in a number of key legislative areas, as well as protect several previous areas of improvement. We also saw some missed opportunities.
